A letter from Jul 4th, 2021

Dear FutureMe, Don't let nostalgia for the past cloud the reality that was the sheer misery of 2020 and 2021. Never say it wasn't that bad unless 20 whatever is truly worse. If you can enter a store without a mask, or without a kevlar vested security guard asking about your temperature life is good. If you can hug people in the open without the need to hide then life is good. If you can have more than 10 people outside or more than 5 inside then life is good. If you can watch or read the news without the non stop fear mongering from beginning to end then life is good. The way things are is not normal and should never be normalized. Nor should this time ever be looked up with any level of nostalgia. Unless, of course, they use current events to turn the future into a true 1984 level dystopia wherever are told what to think, what to do and how to live -and anyone who steps out of line by disagreeing is the bad one. We are close to that now. Let's hope we aren't in 5 years.
