Dear Future Me,
There is definitely excitement and joy in accomplishing things. Having a goal to run after, building something, experiencing something coming out of nothing.
That is the main intention of the universe, to grow, to expand, to evolve, so naturally as a part of nature you as a human want to do the same. No matter how old you are, how accomplished you are, there will always be a part of you that wants change, that wants improvement, that wants your life to excel.
Because you know that you can never be completely out learned and you know that you can always be greater.
There are wonderful things about that. It will motivate you to get up in the morning and to get out of your comfort zone to try something new and to be a better you.
But when you're at the top of the final mountain after having sprinted through it all, what was it all for?
To prove you could do it prove to who? To yourself? To everyone else? Did you join the race because it seemed like everyone else was doing it?
When you have arrived at the final stop, you'll look back and realize that it was the way there that was life itself, and it contained so many wonderful things but you missed out on it.
So in Miley Cyrus's famous words— it's the climb and not the destination.
That's why we immediately give ourselves another top to reach once we've done the first one. So with that knowledge why not enjoy the now. As you are reading this letter, you're on your way to some top. But this very moment is what you look back on and appreciate. So why not appreciate it in the actual moment.
You have it right here and right now and you can live it to the fullest and experience it in real-time. So don't let yourself be too fixated on the top that you miss out on all of these moments.
Because that is what life is isn't it? A collection of small moments.
