Dear FutureMe,
“I just want to crawl under a rock. If I could cut off the whole world, I would.” This quote is from a teenage girl who has taken the full force of the pandemic head on. It resonates with me because in “my world” I have had covid, seen people lose to covid, lost people, and felt the fear of losing people due to it. Over the past academic year, I have a strong understanding of thankfulness, for my teachers, for social interactions, for classmates, and friends. I used to take everything for granted. Now I miss the privilege of going out normally without a mask, talking to people, physical interaction and more. This academic year taught me that I needed to take school 100% seriously to succeed, as I have witnessed people fall down and not get back up. From home I will miss staying comfortable in bed late in the mornings the most. I will also miss the longer family interactions.
I picked up the skills of thoughtfulness and being more grateful this past year. Minecraft has been my go to game to relieve stress and free my mind. This past year something I am truly proud of is being alive, happy, and with all my family and loved ones. That is my world. In “the world”, Israel is oppressing Palestine, China is genociding Uyghur Muslims, and the U.S wages war and terror along with ******* many for their own benefit in the middle east. Prior to the pandemic iot was commonplace to shake hands as a greeting, now we nod and acknowledge each other verbally. Now TikTok is more popular than ever and influences the world in dozens of ways. It's amazing, truly.
In the future, my short term goal is to graduate from high school with an internship, several college classes, and a GPA above 3.8 under my belt, along with several other working experiences. My long term goal is to secure a job in the marketing field for a large company. I most look forward to meeting friends again, and I want to remind myself that you got this, and to keep working hard. Many obstacles are coming your way. Jump higher then the last time. Say this to yourself when times get tough. “If you fall in a hole it is okay, if you fall in the same hole again, you are a fool. DO NOT BE A FOOL! KEEP GOING!!!
