Dear FutureMe,
As I write this you are sitting in a computer lab with middle school boys and you feel more like a babysitter than a teacher. You told them to write a letter to their future selves and none of them were able to complete this simple task. You feel today that your talents are not being put to use and you are meant for much more.
I know there is more out there for you and you will be able to stretch beyond this job. I hope you dont give up, you dont settle. Dont settle for people or opportunities that dont push you to be better. Dont regret this job either, for its taught you what you want and where you want to go. Dont hold on to anxieties about college, or teaching, as they all led you to be better, greater.
As I write this I am wearing a mask and only have one dose of the vaccine. I cant walk on the street without my mask, I sanitize obsessively. I dont know when ill be able to travel.
In five years I hope I don’t forget how hard I worked teaching and how hard I worked to get to Spain. You DID that in a pandemic.
I dont know what will happen with Victor, but he has taught you even in the first seven months to be kinder to yourself and realize how beautiful you are.
Okay I got to go these thirteen year olds are hitting eachother.
With love,
Em
