Dear FutureMe,
A lot has happened this past year, starting in 2020 Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna passed away in a helicopter crash. Then a global pandemic spread and we had to do online learning until the end of 6th grade. If you needed to leave your house you would have to wear masks everywhere. Local business shut down, and some went out of business.
During the global pandemic, restaurants shut down for dine-in but curbside pickup was available. When I helped my family in the grocery store I remember seeing everyone wearing masks, and face shields, and rubber gloves. All of the cleaning products like Clorox wipes and Alcohol were gone in every store. Toilet paper was scarce and nowhere to be found. Amazon deliveries were delayed and our world was in panic.
One of the saddest things that I remember was my whole family had “quarantine birthdays” which meant we couldn’t really celebrate the way we wanted. For my little brothers birthday I remember he had a birthday drive-by. Where all of his friends drove their cars past our house and dropped of presents. Also, one major thing was this app called zoom. Zoom was probably the most used app in 2020, well that and TikTok. In zoom it was a way of video chat so your teachers could still teach you even though we were virtual learners.
Now that it is 2021 things are slowly starting to get back to normal. Restaurants are starting to open back up and in school we don’t have to wear masks anymore. I hope by the time I am reading this that everything will be 100% back to normal.
Love,
Hadleigh Rutland
