Dear FutureMe,
Social justice can be defined as a philosophy, when all are treated with fairness, dignity, respect, and generosity. As an educator I will strive to always have a philosophy of social justice in my classroom. I am optimistic that in 5 years the majority of people will all have a sense of social justice. I promise that my classroom will be a safe space for all, and that my classroom will be a celebration of all cultures. I will teach about Lunar New Year, Did de los Muertos , Hannakuh, Kwanza, as well as any other holidays that I may find out about. I will teach that black history did not start with slavery and goes back many years before that. I personally believe that education is the foundation for everything and if all teachers have a sense of social justice and teach that to the children the world would be a better place. I will celebrate differences and teach that the world would be boring if we were all the same. If we learn about tolerance in school then kids will naturally learn to be more open minded and accepting. In 2021 we have a very long way to go in social justice reform but I am choosing to be hopeful that in the future that positive things will happen and we will continue to move forward.
