Dear FutureMe,
I have seen first hand the deterioration of a society where simple justices have only become worse or simply vanished. Living through the Covid 19 Pandemic has only added fuel to a problem we have been facing since America was founded; racisim. Social justice, equality and fair opportunites for all no matter your skin color, is a living breathing subject everywhere. Everything from waking up at home in the morning, going to work, going to school, watching TV, or hanging with friends have been subjects of the rising problems of racims and social jsutice. Mass shootings and BLM protests have become "normalized" and not a single day goes by without hearing of it on TV or the internet. These times reminds me of the Black Plague or when Martin Luther King Jr. fought for social justice, things we only heard about in history books. History will continue to repeat itself and I know racism will never die and social justice protests will reappear in other generations. Life is not perfect, we do not live in a perfect world and its hard to think a day will come when EVERYONE will learn to respect one another and problems like racism will cease. That is why I write to you, Rodolfo, because I hope that as a teacher you will and have played your part in at least helping to guide each and every generation of students that come into your classroom. That you will respect them, offer them a safe environment, and tackle problems that are too sensitive to speak on because you know ignorace is not bliss. Make sure you speak your mind, but know the boundaries, and let the students see and understand the real world problems because that affects them far more than you or any can ever know. It will be tough but doing what's right is more important than anything else.
- Rodolfo
