A letter from March 24th, 2021

Time Travelled — almost 5 years

Peaceful right?

Dear FutureMe, It is 2021 and society continues to face injustice involving senseless mass shootings, racism, the COVID-19 pandemic, and a school system that fails to create an equitable education for all students. As a pre-service teacher, I pledge to myself to contribute to social justice. Reminder: social justice focuses on the actions taken to works towards treating each individual with kindness, fairness, and respect not matter who they are. In 5 years, I hope you continue to push yourself to create social justice starting in your classroom. You will include topics of inequality into your academic curriculum to correct the assumptions and motivate students to fight for equality. You will provide the resources and fair changes that your students need to be successful in your classroom to work towards an equitable education. You will create a challenging classroom for your students because you will not have low expectation of them. You will promote cultural awareness and appreciation by appropriately involving the topics in your lessons. You will not give up on your students ever. I hope you fulfill this promise and that your students contribute to society as well. Stay positive and strong! -You
