Dear FutureMe,
It's 18th January 2021, and after the shocking year that was 2020, hopefully things are gonna look up from now on. As I'm writing this, I'm sat in my bedroom in Germany - struggling to find the motivation do complete my essays due in a few weeks haha. So far I've really enjoyed the study abroad experience, although shops and bars have been shut since November so there's not much to do. I've met some great people but they're leaving in a few weeks and then more students will come. I'm anxious as to what the new people will be like as I've only just got settled with the current people.
Throughout 2021, I really want to knuckle down with my assignments and get a good outcome from my study abroad year. I'm not so bothered whether I pass or fail the year, but I at least want something to show from the year. By concentrating on my studies I hope this follows me into my final year of University at Northumbria as I hope to do well and earn a good degree. Ideally in 5 years time I'll have a grad job - or a job in my desired field, that I enjoy. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about the job, as long as I'm happy.
It'll be interesting to see where my life's at in 5 years time - but just remember, everything happens for a reason, so if things aren't ideal now, there's nothing to worry about. I hope by the future I've learnt to not let things bother me, other peoples opinions, my appearance etc - I just hope I'm happy. That's all that really matters at the end of the day.
5 years seems such a long time, but I'll be reading this letter before I know it - gosh I'll be 25, I'll have to actually start acting like an adult soon, nah scrap that... forever young.
No matter what you're currently going through, whether you're in an extremely happy place, or really struggling to get through it all, just remember how much you've already achieved in life up to the age of 20, and how much more you've achieved this past 5 years.
If I had to guess where I'll be when reading this I'd say... "I'll work and live in/around Newcastle, I'll be sat with a cup of coffee/tea preparing for the day. It's a Sunday so hopefully I'll just be relaxing before the week ahead. It'll just be another random day, nothing special, no actual feelings as to whether I'm happy or not - just average". If that's the case, I hope this letter makes your day.... makes your week even!
I just hope you're happy. I hope you enjoy working wherever it is, I hope you're surrounded by love and friendship. I hope you live comfortably - not matter where you're living. Don't forget, stress is temporary. Just think.. will it matter in 5 years time? I can guarantee that the stresses/worry's I'm currently going through won't matter when you read this, you probably don't even remember what was on your mind back in 2021 - so here's a quick overview.
- I forgot I had an assignment due in before Christmas (2020), so I might lie and say I handed it in to buy more time to actually write it and hand it in. If it goes on my record that I didn't do it, I might lose out on the Erasmus grant.
- I have an exam in Marketing & Sales on the 23rd Feb 2021 that I'm definitely not prepared for, as well as Automation Systems
(haven't a clue what's going on for that one).
These 2021 worries won't matter anymore, so your current worries won't matter for long - keep going.
You are an amazing person, full of personality, laughs, confidence and strengths - and I am so so so proud of you for everything, don't let anyone tell you you're not worth being happy... because you are.
All my love,
Georgia Watson (age 20) xxxx
