A letter to my future self …
Dear Allison, January 7, 2021
You were a senior at school when you typed out this letter, however, you barely were a senior since you barely got an actual senior year...with COVID, the BLM Movement, and now Trump supporters who have stormed the capital as of January 6th of 2021, I’m really hoping that life is looking and feeling a tad better than how it is was in 2021.
I know you don’t really like history, and probably never will because you weren’t good at high school, but when political and historical events like these happened in our lifetime, it's something that’s unforgettable and events that can never be ignored. At this moment, I’m pretty mad to be honest. I genuinely feel absolutely disgusted by the hypocrisy of this action towards the fact that when comparing these protests to the BLM movement- it's infuriating. Because some of the people that stormed the capital violently were the ones that were labeling the BLM movement as a completely violent cause. In no way do I want to justify the violence and anger that occured in some of the cities during the BLM movements, however, the center of this cause has been boiled up for centuries now. There is history behind it, and the vast majority of the movement was entirely peaceful where they were able to convey their message nationally and globally to the world powerfully. Now, these trump supporters decided to violently storm the capital, where the police are having more sensitive reactions to them as well by not throwing tear gas or hurting the people. It’s hypocritical and repulsive to the country.
For someone that really doesn’t like history, I know deep down there you have your emotions and opinions about topics in the present day. By 2025, there's gonna be a new president and hopefully it won't be as chaotic as this has been. And by the time I send this letter, you’ll know what happened on inauguration day, how Biden was as a president, the problems, the solutions, and how the future really ended up for the United States. Not the typical letter I really want to write to my future self, but it is important. Hope everything is going good for you Allison, just keep having hope for the future.
