A letter from January 6th, 2021

Time Travelled — almost 5 years

Peaceful right?

Dear FutureMe, You recently got a letter from your high school self. It has been 4 years since you told yourself that you hope life is doing better. I have to say that maybe we didn't get as far as we thought we would, or have the same best friend, or love ourselves as much as we had hoped, but we are still proud of where we are. I want to say you have a really awesome boyfriend now, you might even marry him one day. You know you didn't see that for yourself before him either. I think that makes us super happy too... even if it does make us super scared at the same time. We trust him though, he makes us happier than ever before. Also, you've only liked him since like 8th grade so we still can't wrap our head around how he came to finally choose us. You also have a pretty great best friend. She understands you and she is also a lot like you where you know she won't go anywhere, at least not for a while. She tries to remind you of your self worth just about every day of your existence. She doesn't have the most perfect life, but we always want to show her the good things. Keep leaving her sticky notes in her room or giving her rocks it makes her happy. Us, we are doing alright. Life hasn't been the best or the easiest, especially in the past four years of college. We go through a lot at home still, I know that past us really hoped that would end when we left for college, but it got worse for a bit. Our brother really went downhill, we don't speak to him much anymore but maybe one day. We talk to our sister every once in a while, but that is still pretty broken too. Things with mom are good even though she isn't the healthiest and scares us a lot. Honestly, mostly things aren't good with him, but they are on and off, we get by okay. We think mom realizes what he does now, but she still loves him. It's okay, we won't be stuck here forever. We lost two of our pups this year in 2020. It ******* sucks, but we still gotta take care of girl's best friend right? We gotta take care of everyone in the house sometimes. I know you will remember it all, I don't have to explain the rest. Anyway, we are about to graduate. It's a weird time to graduate, but we almost did it! That's crazy to be a nurse even before the age of 21. Past us thought I would still be in my junior year by now, but we are doing even better than that. We still work on loving ourselves for the right reasons, but it is okay, we get by just fine. Hopefully, we are getting closer by now though. From me to you, Us 1.6.2021
