Dear FutureMe,
By the time you read this, you should already be teaching preferably Kindergarten. It is Sunday, November 8th and you are a few weeks from completing your first semester at UHD as a transfer student from HBU. SOSE 3306 with Dr. Chen has been really eye opening especially this 2020 year with so many things things going on from Covid to the election of a new president after having Trump for the last 4 years. Trump in office has made the world around us a more discriminating one and racist. People have seem to have shown their true colors and feel backed up by Trump. I think that this class has been perfect timing in order to help your students with the society injustices that they are bound to face. The Nieto and Bode book has provided great information on how to deal with certain factors in classrooms and school districts, from learning how not to avoid certain topics because you might feel uncomfortable speaking about them in your diverse classroom, to learning that a proper and diverse education is a work in progress and process. Today I pledge to become a teacher that makes all of her students feel included, and fights against the injustices they face. I want to remind them that they are all equal in one way or another and that in my classroom they will succeed.
