A letter from November 5th, 2020

Time Travelled — almost 5 years

Peaceful right?

Dear Future Me, I am writing this letter November 5th 2020. You were currently living through a pandemic, COVID-19. It feels like it has been going on forever and to add on, you were preparing to see who wins the presidental election. Covid has impacted your education life greatly from taking face-to-face classes your whole life to transitioning to all online classes. The world has been going through many social justice issues such as climate justice, health care, *** violence, abortion, and with BLM. I believe we should all focus to work on reducing social justice issues. "Members of any group may be prejudiced, and it is everyone's responsibility to work to eradicate individual racism and other biases" (Nieto 52). We are encouraged to work with others although we may not agree or have the same views that is okay. By this time, 5 years have passed and you may be teaching at a school already. As an educator I hope you are taking part of teaching your students on social justice issues and discrimination. "Although many teachers believe that young children should not be exposed to the horrors of racism at an early age, they overlook to the fact that many children suffer the effects of racism or other forms of discrimination every day" (Nieto 53). I want to remember you to approach these types of issues to the students in an appropriate way to help them address racism and other biases in a positive interactive way. I hope to have a positive classroom environment and lead the students to success in their lives.
