Time Travelled — almost 5 years

Peaceful right?

Dear FutureMe, I am living through the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been very difficult living through all of this because of the political climate right now. There are many social justice issues being brought forward such as the issues with BLM. I think that is is important to focus on all this and get change for people from diverse backgrounds. In the textbook it states, " Beyond the classroom level, achieving social justice requires reforming school policies and practices so that all students are provided with an equal chance to learn." (Nieto and Bode pg. 9) I think reform needs to take place in order to help our students in the future become successful. This is why now more than ever it is important to have groups such as BLM helping fight the injustices people of color face. In the textbook it also states, "Others who have fought for social justice are often downplayed, maligned, or ignored." (Nieto and Bode pg. 34) These changes that can be made by fighting for social justice can help create better environments in schools for students. I hope that when I am a teacher I make sure not to be ignorant about injustices my students face. I want to be able to allow my students to have a safe place in my classroom where we can talk about these issues and how to overcome them. Be a good teacher and think of your students :) btw today is Election Day and hopefully Biden wins. We'll see how it goes though :/
