A letter from October 29th, 2020

Time Travelled — almost 5 years

Peaceful right?

Dear Future Adan, How are you? What are you doing? You’re going to be receiving this letter in 5 years, so what are you doing in life? If I did the math right you should have graduated high school by now, is that correct? If so, did you like your high school experience? I’m still in eighth grade at the time of writing this letter so I wouldn’t know how it is. I just hope that you had a great experience and possibly went to a great college. I wonder how you’ve changed and how you’ve stayed the same. I can tell you that as of right now, I’m the same. Still with the same friend group, same hobbies, same school. I can assure you that everything will change in the future, you won’t be with the same people, you probably will have different hobbies, and you will be at different schools. I hope that you find a way to stay in touch with your current friends. If you do end up staying in touch with your friends, tell me how they are, are they different? Are they the same? I want to know everything about them! I also want to know about all the potential friendships that you developed in high school. Give me all the details! I wonder if you still live in the same home, do you still live in your childhood home? Our parents always did say how they wanted to move, just couldn’t find the right home. In twenty years, what will you be? You never really knew what you wanted to be. I know that you didn’t know what to choose between, you were always debating between something in the medical field or becoming a teacher. All I know is that whatever you choose, you’ll love it. Teaching has been something that you always wanted to do, I remember when you had no doubt about it. But, you started to watch Grey’s Anatomy and you started to think about a potential career in the medical field. I do wonder what you chose. I also do wonder how long you stood in college. Just remember that whatever you choose, you have to stay dedicated! Becoming an educator or someone in the medical field involves a lot of work, just remember that when it’s time to make that decision. In twenty years, I hope that you’re still good at writing. As a fourteen-year-old, writing this letter to myself in five years is kind of easy and fun. You also never know when you need a backup career if things ever head south. I also still hope that you still are an animal lover (preferably a dog lover still). I wonder how many dogs you’ll own. You did always say that you wanted a corgi at some point in your life, so maybe that time is now! In twenty years, you better still own all those Build-a-Bear Workshop bears that you’ve gotten over the years. I know that you love them all, especially your Pikachu plushie! In full honesty, I can’t think of any items you might keep in twenty years. Knowing you, you’ll probably get rid of most things. It’s sad but true. A few pieces of advice that I want to give you is, don’t be perfect. Just don’t be perfect, be yourself. Don’t be someone else just because someone wants you to be. You are perfect just the way you are and you don’t need anyone to tell you otherwise. Another piece of advice I want to give you is, keep on trying! Don’t ever give up because things get tough, just remember that there is always a light at the end of a tunnel. I just know that you’ll hit a stump and you’ll think that there is no possible solution to the problem, but there is. There always is, you just have to look hard enough for it. That’s all I have to say to you Love, Your fourteen-year-old self.
