A letter from July 27th, 2020

Dear FutureMe, Ok, it's been 7 months since I wrote an email-- and things are really piling up. The first 3 months saw a job interview for a crypto trader for Chicago-based Hehmeyer -- based in Bermuda (I screwed up the phone interview, unfortunately) - an implosion of trading firm Ronin Capital from hundreds of millions in losses in its NY hedge fund from VIX bets gone awry - then a democratic presidential primary where black voters lifted an otherwise 3rd-place joe Biden into dominant first place (eliminating 10 other candidates, including a smoke-and-mirrors ******* *** mayor candidate-- wtf was white America thinking?!?) - then a stock market crash (-30% in a month, fastest ever!) because of a rapidly-spreading respiratory virus that ***** about 10% infected, (the market rallied back with enormous fed reserve intervention and 3 separate multi trillion dollar bailouts) - then a complete shutdown of the US economy because of the same ("stay at home" orders being issued state-by-state, because president trump decided to call the virus a hoax and downplay the damage and risks) - then a premature reopening forced by conservatives who care more about profits than people - then a rapid spike in infections and deaths that primarily hurt black, latino and native americans, who were deprived resources by tump (who played favorites for whites only) - then protests in Minneapolis over the ****** of a motorist by police in front of everyone-- took 8 minutes and 46 seconds to choke him out -- and the absolute refusal of the police to arrest the cops responsible, - then the protests spread across the country, then around the world "black lives matter" became a brand in a stunning show of black influence and soft power -- apparently the largest protest ever in history - then the protests dug in and president trump decided to antagonize and demonize black people, leading to much larger protests, in all-white cities like Portland and Seattle, where police decided to make an example and teargas everyone-- for 55 days and counting - then trump sent in private contractors as federal agents to make things worse, leading to pictures of surburban white women getting gassed and roughed up and kidnapped by unidentified cops while marching for black lives matter - then trump tries to send these unidentified goons to Chicago (blm Chicago has sued to stop the goon squad), Baltimore, St Louis, Detroit, Philadelphia (basically any city with a large black population) to subjugate them-- all to increase his plummeting polls going into the election in November - then trump decides to go full nazi fascist (NOT an exaggeration!) in hopes of bullying terrorizing and cheating his way to victory (white America looks like it will take the bait 50/50) - now Biden has a shot at winning Texas for the Democrats for the first time in 50 years - Texas Florida Arizona have seen massive spikes in covid infections and deaths, causing trump to drop hard in their polls giving Biden the lead in each state My birthday is coming up in 3 weeks, the futureme emails are piling up, so I finally decided to make another one I feel like a fool, during the market crash, I neglected to log into my brokerage account and buy a spy out-- the thought never occurred to me-- but I could have picked up a quick $5,000 on a $10 bet. I was too busy reading about (apparently fake) reddit posts about a gut turning $20,000 into $20million by buying tesla 1000-call leaps when the stock was at $180 (it zoomed out to $900, crashed to $400, now it's at $1 600)... Remembering history, I'e been looking at cheap spy puts 2 months out as the market rallies, with an expectation that it's going to collapse September to November like 2008 -- I'll try not to blow it this time...!
