A letter from June 16th, 2020

Dear FutureMe, You probably are reading this delayed because you do not check your email. I am not surprised I do not check my email now either. I have been thinking a lot. six years feels so far away yet so close I can grasp it in the palm of my hand. Right now I have no idea what to do about my future I am in shambles. A million dreams are keeping me awake and I have no clue how I can pursue them all. I hope right now you are reading this after obtaining an LLM and maybe law school. If you did not do one or both I am positive it was for the best in my career and overall life. I hope you do not take a day of it for granted because I am sitting here wishing and praying for this moment to happen where my future has clarity. You might be engaged to a handsome European or an average American but either way your love for him should have fire and passion. Do not settle for less and especially do not let him impact your goals and your visions. You are a strong independent queen and your actions should reflect as such!!! Real talk future me, I hope you feel confident in your own skin and in your own future. I am a little afraid as to what the future holds and it is zooming by in the blink of an eye. I hope you still have the mindset that you can change the world and everything wrong with it. Right now I know there is an incredible impact I can make, I want the world to remember my name and to be taught to students in history courses. Maybe it is because I am an advocate, a lawyer, senator, even president. Follow through with this plan. I believe in you. Some things I hope you do not take for granted: -being able to hug mom and dad -having an incredibly annoying brother -having the best sister anyone could ask - going to the grandparents for a surprise lunch -playing the piano during a jam session -the smell of a book waiting to be dived into -The Diner -your friends who might not seem but are ready to catch you -the familiarity that equates to returning back home I hope you feel the high of life. I hope you enjoy every second that accompanies it. You are the future that everyone right now is looking for. Take it all in and go get it girl. To quote the iconic Elle Woods "You must always have faith in other people. And, most importantly, you must always have faith in yourself" I'm so proud :) your 19 year old red head self
