Dear FutureMe, Having a huge passion for computer science and artificial intelligence, I participated in math and coding competitions prior to SRA. However, I have not explored much of the ethics and history of the subject. During SRA, my academic goal is to learn more about the history of the science. I hope to research a question that involves both hands-on coding and philosophy. My personal goals are to learn what it feels like to be a high-achieving college student which requires mastering countless skills: time management, ability to work under pressure, balancing extracurricular activities, etc. Doing so would make adapting to college life way easier in the near future. Moreover, I want to meet a lot more friends coming from diverse backgrounds. There are many international students, and learning their unique culture and experiences will be very fun. Students from RMP also live together in the same residence hall, so I hope I can gain insight from their experience as well. My professional goals include networking with students whom have the same academic interests as me. This may help me find a suitable teammate for a future passion project. I want to be a scholar who not only knows the technical aspects about computer science but also the philosophical and historical side aspects. While working with my teammates, I hope I become a well-versed researcher with decent leadership. Additionally, I would like to discover areas of studies I am not very passionate about to broaden my understanding of research. I feel excited about the new research process that revolves around teamwork. Most projects I have done before SRA were independent. The process where a teammate has specialization and develops in their weaker areas especially intrigues me. I am also glad to have instructors and teaching assistants that can guide me throughout the project. Participating in office hours will be a brand new experience for me. In SRA, I expect to learn the structure of a research paper and what high-level research truly means. Once again, I hope to improve my coding skills during the process and be very knowledgable on artificial intelligence's history.
