Dear Future Me,
I LOVE YOU SO SO MUCH!!
I hope when you read this, you remember why you chose yourself.
Right now, I am still healing. Some mornings I wake up missing him so deeply that my stomach twists. Even after 40 days, the ache still exists. And maybe when you return to the hostel and see him again after months, a part of you will feel everything all over again.
But please remember the full truth, not just the loneliness.
Remember how much you cried while still being in that relationship. Remember how exhausted you felt trying to hold everything together. Remember how often you begged for the bare minimum: time, effort, reassurance, simple dates, consistency. Remember how slowly you started losing yourself while trying to save something you loved.
No one was the villain. You both loved each other in the ways you knew how. You both tried. But love alone was not enough to make it healthy, fulfilling, or sustainable.
You did not leave because you stopped loving him.
You left because you could not keep abandoning yourself.
You tried to make things better. You communicated, waited, adjusted, hoped, forgave, and stayed longer than your heart could handle. And when nothing truly changed, you finally chose yourself. That was not weakness. That was courage.
So when you see him again, do not romanticize the pain. Do not shrink yourself for familiarity. Do not question your worth because someone could not meet your needs.
You are not hard to love.
You were simply asking for the kind of love you deserved.
And one day, someone will give it naturally, without convincing, begging, or breaking yourself apart to earn it.
Until then, let your own love for yourself be enough.
I am proud of you for surviving this.
I am proud of you for leaving.
And I hope you never forget that choosing yourself was the right decision.
I AM EXTREMELY PROUD
With love,
You
