Dear FutureMe,
Hello future self! I hope that the summer has been good and that you have had lots of success! Here are you engaged in learning experiences you want to explore more. Remember to commit to it and try new things!
Study abroad
Studying abroad would help me to develop more cultural experience, which is important. I also have a very big interest in public health and would love to see how some other countries handle healthcare. I also think that traveling to a different country would also give me a new since of confidence. This experience would allow me to become a better problem solver, become more adaptable, and learn more resilience. Some next steps I would like to explore to pursue this would be to investigate scholarships for study abroad and also investigate the different study abroad experience that IU Indy offers. Specifically, I would like to reach out to my old public health professor to learn more about the travel abroad experience that the Fairbanks school of public health offers. I would like to do a study abroad experience during my second semester of my junior year.
Community Engagement Internship program
I participated in my local county fair for 10 years and a big theme we focused on was community engagement, so I have always really valued community. Although this kind of internship program would look great on a resume and as experience, my interest in this program is more for my personal life. Specifically, I would like to be a part of community-based research. I have always had a goal of advocating for my community and by being a part of community-based research I could do that. Through this I would be able to strengthen my engaged profiles of learning such as problem solver, communicator as I would be communicating with a mentor, and community contributor. Some next steps I will pursue to find out more information about this program will be to see what the eligibility requirements are and reach out to someone who might have participated in this program to talk about their experience. I would love to begin this opportunity in the fall of 2027.
