A letter from Nov 7th, 2021

Hey You, Happy Birthday! Do you remember me? I'm sure you think you do, but you know...you're old now.... the memories are probably fading.... I hope you're doing well. Right now things are okay, they could be better. Did you ever go to law school? Or was that just a passing whim. Did you marry that boy finally? Or did you accept that maybe your friends are right and you actually are a lesbian? (I'll love you either way, even if Mom and Dad won't) I hope you're still maintain sobriety. I know it's easy to wonder how life would be if you gave in, but please don't. I hope you're still friends with the people you love, but I know love is fluid and now you've probably had a chance to love a million more people. Keep your heart open, it'll change the world. Did you ever pierce your nose? Or is it one of those things you grow out of? How's your brother? No, the other brother? Did that band ever make it big? Do you have the house with the pretty backdoors you've always dreamt about? Did you move to one of the cities you visited once and swore to return to? Did you ever learn to speak the language? Do your friends still make fun of you for your accent? You really need to work on that. Are you still thinking in poetry? Do you have dreams? Do you follow them? Maybe you'll read this and think, "Wow, 2021 Me was really stupid." Maybe you'll laugh. You've been laughing a lot lately. Life's been better in some ways, worse in others. Just remember, I'll always love you. Stay positive, 2021 You.
