Dear Future Callum,
So, you made it out of highschool (I hope). What does it feel like to finally be an adult? I know this is supposed to be a letter to myself for close to ten months from now but I honest to god have no idea what to write about. I do know that you spell check probably like every other word in this letter so your still a terrible speller. Jokes aside, I have spent most of my life trying to calculate what kind of person I’m going to be and how i'm going to change over the course of my life. I know you. I know you calculate close to every possible outcome and I can still guarantee that the past me would still be surprised by the person I will become. I hope you got into Colorado Springs because if you didn’t you're kind of hosed and you know dad will be pissed. If you did get in, then good job bud. You actually did it. I know you are probably stressed about living on your own and growing up because it all seems like it’s going so fast but I want you to remember to stop and enjoy life every once and awhile because you only get one life. You don’t want to wake up one day and see a 38 year old man who has done nothing but work all his life.
Keep in mind who you are. You are an amazing person who has unbound compassion for everyone you meet. You may not be special because everyone is special, but only you can be you and so I ask you not to burn bridges or turn people away. My goal that I hope you have achieved by the time you read this is to care. I want you to be remembered as the one person who truly cared. Be it a person, school work, or a sport, just be the person who shows compassion to others.
So enough chit-chat. Answer some questions.
Can you drive yet?
How long tell you can drive?
How is Hannah?
Have you landed a solid backflip on your (i'm assuming old by now) snowboard.
What is your final GPA?
How is the Fam?
There you go. If all of these are the answers i’m currently expecting then I think your solid. Before I end this letter, I want to ask one very important thing of you.
Be who I know you are. I know mom and dad may not get it but I know the true person you are because I am you. If you do this, you will go far. Love the people closest to you and cherish the relationships you have and never let go of them because it can be a lonely world. Hope everything is well bud.
Keep shredding,
Past Callum
