Dear FutureMe,
Hey there—if you're reading this, it means some time has passed since that philosophy class we took. I hope life’s been good to you, or at least meaningful in some way. I wanted to remind you of something that really stuck with me.
One of the most meaningful ideas from the class was the concept of moral responsibility—specifically the idea that we’re not just responsible for our actions, but also for the systems we’re a part of. It challenged how I think about the choices I make every day. Whether it's the way I consume, vote, speak up (or stay quiet), it made me think more deeply about the ripple effects of personal behavior in a larger social context.
I don’t want to forget how that made me feel—accountable but also empowered. It reminded me that while I may not be able to change the whole world, I am always shaping some small part of it, whether I realize it or not.
A philosophical question I want to keep thinking about is: What does it really mean to live a good life? Not just a successful one or a happy one, but a meaningful one. The answers might shift over time, but I want to keep asking.
So, future me—stay curious. Keep questioning. Don’t settle for surface-level answers. And don’t forget how much power there is in simply paying attention.
With love,
Your past self
