Hey FutureMe, I hope by now you have figured out for the most part what you are going to do for the rest of your life. Right now, I am very confused, worried , and nervous about what is going to come of my life but I really do believe in myself that I will be happy and do something great one day. By now, I think you will have graduated from UW-Waukesha and most likely will transfer to some other four year university. Right now, I am thinking about working in an IT job, but I have no clue if that will be for sure what I do. I am writing this future letter to you because I have to for English 12 but I really do think that this letter will help me later in life. I think that this letter will help me assess myself and how I have changed and grown as a person.
We read many books in English this year, we read “The Great Gatsby”, “Fences”, “Hamlet”, and we read about ⅓ of “The Goldfinch”. My favorite book was definitely The Great Gatsby; a quote that I really liked from “The Great Gatsby” is one of its most famous quotes, “So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.” This quote was the last sentence in the book and I think that was a great place for this quote. This quote definitely applies to me very well because right now I am not the best person I think I can be. Right now, I procrastinate, I am lazy, and I can be overall not very hardworking. This quote helps me because it helps me not look back at the past and who I am right now and it will allow me to grow into a better version of myself. My parents have always told me that I have an opportunity to be someone great and someone very successful. I truly do believe that is true as long as I work hard at and strive for greatness.
Another quote from a book that we read is from Fences, this quote really did inspire me in many ways. "You got to take the crookeds with the straights. That's what Papa used to say." This quote is when Troy is basically explaining that there will be things in your life that go wrong and you just have to move past them. Everyone has some misfortunes in their life and it isn’t about what happens to you it is about how you react and get after it after whatever misfortune happens to you. I think this quote will also help me grow as a person because I know that everything always happens for a reason and that things will go wrong in my life sometimes. Not many things have gone wrong in my life as of right now but I know that in the future some things will go wrong. You might get fired from a job, you might fail a test, or you might face a tragedy that will cause you to be very upset or sad. I know that you are a pretty mellow person and that you are able to overcome challenges that happen in your life but I want you to always remember that you are good enough and that you are absolutely able to do anything you desire.
Like I said earlier, my favorite book that we read this year was “The Great Gatsby” Another one of my favorite quotes from the book that applies to my life was a quote that Fitzgerald was explaining how things aren’t always perfect in life. This quote applies to me and basically applies to every human being in the world because it is saying that there will be amazing times in your life, and there will be awful and bad times during your life. Fitzgerald is saying that you need to find happiness in the things that you do. No matter what you do, where you live or who you are friends with, many things will go wrong.
I know that by now you are probably a completely different person and probably have a lot of new and different friends, but you will most likely be the same old Will. I hope and pray that you will aspire to be something great one day. I know that you are deep down a very hard worker and you are always willing to give your all into something that you love doing. I will see you in 5 years, Will. Good luck:)
