What I Believe Essay
I believe that people are like bread; we cannot choose how we start, but we can help to shape ourselves in order to achieve our goals.
The founding essence begins in the running streams and plowed fields, roughly thrown together to form the dough. This soften substance often remains untouched for a time, yet change is required to be bread. Spices, herbs, cheeses, honey, butter, and even sometimes more grain are added carefully. Too much of any of these flavors and the dough no longer has the desired properties to become bread, there must be balance. After much flavoring and shaping the dough is ready for the flames of the kiln, to be heated until ready. Some are burnt or charred in this timely process, a tragedy that cannot be opposed. Though damaged breads still hold some value, they cannot be saved. Through the flames they come: Italian herb, whole grain, sogum, barley, gluten free, pizza crust, buns, and white bread. All going to their own fates in the bakeries, Whole Food locations, pizzerias, farmer markets, and a local Times supermarket near you. The cool kid Italian breads will bath in the sun, while the hipster gluten-free’s will relax in their Whole Food baskets; living life la vida loca. Soon though, they will only be crumbs; enjoying only a brief life.
We are like the breads. Our inheritance the dirt, our presence the fire, and our legacy the crumbs; the essence of bread. We are born of the bread, and we will die by the bread.
Thanks for being an awesome teacher Mr. Medeiros!
