Dear FutureMe,
Today, I had an interesting conversation with a doctor who performs abortions. You see, my wife and I are trying to adopt. There are a number of organizations that try to help adoptive parents meet expectant parents and arrange an adoption. The problem is, the average cost for infant adoption in Indiana is $30,000 to $40,000. Our budget is $19,000. This sounds like a lot, but is only enough to cover legal fees, a home study, and the most basic adoption expenses. This means we have to advertise ourselves on a shoestring budget. My solution is to visit Dr. offices and clinics and ask if I can leave cards advertising me and my family. One organization in particular has been incredibly helpful. When counselors meet with an expectant parent, they discuss all options. The organization agreed to include my advertisements in their adoption packet. Today while I was dropping off more ads, one of the physicians stopped to talk to me. The conversation was deep. The core issues are complex. But, I was most surprised by the doctor's strong desire to help us. The whole office staff is helping us advertise for adoption and asking for nothing in return.
