Dear FutureMe,
Soon you will embark on your bike journey. You currently lay on the couch, your mind spins, your muscles quietly ache.
You are continuing to grow and to discover and understand so many new things - especially new things about yourself. But in discovering those new things about yourself, you are also gaining insights into the functions of the world around you.
Now is as good a time as any to reflect on them.
1. People don't want unsolicited advice.
It's that simple. People will make mistakes, and would will see them do so, but really in no circumstance is it a good idea to tell someone what to do.
If you feel overly compelled, preface it with: "Can I give you some advice?". It is bound to be much better received.
2. You can't heal anyone
In the words of wise old Tim "Everybody has their own lessons to learn". You cannot teach them those lessons, nor can you learn them for them, no matter how badly you want to.
3. Everyone will disappoint you
It's inevitable. Every single person in your life will let you down and leave you feeling like the least important ant in the deepest crack on the sidewalk. But...
4. Nothing is as personal as it seems
The root of someone's anger is not always you. You are not always the intended target of hormonal outbursts. Everybody does not always think "how will this affect Lisa?" before they make any decision. And they don't have to!
If you get let down, I'm sorry, that sucks, but you've probably made the same moves to other people on other days.
5. Giving is good.
6. Life is hard.
7. Life is beautiful.
8. Life moves on.
Love,
Lisa
