Future me, this isn't just a letter to you. At this point you'd be 18, probably relaxing in your room. This is a letter to all who can relate. (It's public for a reason.) Please, for your own sake. Enjoy all the time in the world that you have. Today is your 18th birthday, and you will soon be graduating from high school. Knowing you, because I am you. You haven't confessed your feelings to the girl you've felt for. Being that it was for the sake of your feelings as a post-pubescent 16 year old with a whole lot of hormones and a whole lot of ambition.
I hope you continue the streak of hard work. We really want to go to college. I hope you made your dreams come true. "Varsity Captain 2015" remember? I hope you didn't lose your grip on reality. Because let's be frank with each other. It's been two whole years, and we both know that our grasp is fleeting.
With the array of dreams, both future and current. Stay a bright kid, because with every failure you learn a way not to do something. And even though it's your 18th birthday, it's your moth important birthday. It's the birthday were you and I can, in a sense, enjoy it together.
The birthday were we both hope we can finally accept growing up, because despite the veil of maturity you try to put on. You're just a kid on the inside. A kid who enjoys video games and soccer. And that's all you'll ever really be, so smile about it.
Mature in your own way, I'm pretty sure you'd figured it out by now.
With love,
Your former self.
