Dear FutureMe, Happy birthday!!!! How does it feel to be 30? Have you just looked in the mirror and tried to discern if the eyecream you bought worked? Haha, I bet you look as I do now.. the years have been good to you!! Which part of the world are at you now? At what point in your life are you at? Are you happy (most of the time)? Do you have a direction? I really don't mean to nag, but forefront in my mind right now is what kind of a person you are! FutureMe, you have been all that I'm thinking about recently.. Are you all that I've hoped or have you fallen wayward? I'm making many choices now that will affect you.. so please don't blame me if you are suffering the consequences of my limited judgment. You know I am merely doing the best that I can! If you are at some fabulous university doing some ground-breaking research, congrats! you're halfway to becoming the awesome (remember barney?) person that I wished you would be! If not, don't despair.. there's still the other ways that you can be! It is 2009 now and this is the year I turn 25. Gosh, it is such a scary thought because 25 seems like the year where I accelerate towards adulthood! I hope you are still the same person that I am now (with many many software upgrades!). I hope you have not lost sight of the things that are important in life - truth, happiness and love. The title of this email are the 2 songs that I am currently obsessed with. The two are semantic opposites but yet aren't that different from each other. Ray sings of the happiness he knows he has but can't quite feel.. Jason sings of his gladness and of the knowledge that he is truly blessed. Are you still empty? Will you always feel this way? Here's a checklist of things that I hope I would have accomplished/been/seen by the time I turn 30. If you haven't achieved them all, don't despair! It is meant to be a work-in-progress.. If you haven't even accomplished one, then please, get cracking already! 1) Gone on a budget, backpacking trip! 2) As close as ever to Clarieee! 3) Close & still in contact with the girls - Candice, Eulalia & Valerie. AND marcus! 4) Close to my parents 5) Completed a masters in Psychology & enroute to getting my PHD! 6) In a long-term fulfilling relationship 7) Stopped searching for THE ONE 8) Sense of humour still intact (lame jokes included!) 9) A definite date to eat at El Buli in Barcelona Finally my dear futureMe, I hope that you are a much better person than I am today. I also hope that the you now is in a much less scary place than I think you will be. I hope you are not depressed by this email. Don't worry, a much cheerier one is coming right up from Clariee.
