Dear FutureMe,
Today, you want to be a teacher. If everything's gone okay, you should be ready to graduate in a matter of weeks. You never thought you'd live this long - hopefully you still are. Please don't kill yourself. You kind of want to right now, I hope you've gotten help.Today, you just moved out after spending the whole semester living with your ex. You did love him, remember? Hopefully you don't now, but if you do I hope he treats you better than he has been. Are you still anxious? Do you still eat your sandwiches in circles? Have you found someone to be with, or are you still convinced you should be alone? Right now, you have a bit of a crush on a girl named Natalia. Did you ever go out with her? Ray wanted you to wait - did you? I think we would be good together - you should go for it. How's your hair - did you keep your mo-hawk? Do they let you put it up when you teach? Did you get your eyebrow pierced?
More importantly, have you stopped lying? Did you learn how to smile? You would have had to invite your dad to your graduation by now. Maybe you've forgiven him? You should have by now, fyi. The past is the past, please learn that. Forgive Ray and Heather. You don't want to right now, you think you never will, and that's okay. You're a little bitter, and that's okay too. Do you all still live together? Work together? I'm curious. I hope, future me, that you've learned how to love. I hope you're okay, I hope you have some good friends who helped you through everything.
You had a pretty good day today. It was your first day in Christina's room - you have the bed by the window, and you're pretty excited because of that. You went to class today - did you actually finish your project? Dr. I really wants to work with you on it - I hope you did. You could change the world, kid. You'll be almost 23 today (exactly a month left). Have you driven a car yet? It'll have been a few years since your accidents, but if you're not ready, that's okay too.
Anyways, I hope you're happy. I hope you have love. I hope you are still alive.
Sincerely,
an almost-20-year-old you.
